Clergy Notes — Sunday, July 22, 2018

“Mission is rooted in the identity of God Himself. God is on a mission, and Jesus is the embodiment of that mission. Jesus identifies Himself as being sent more than forty times in the gospel of John. Then, near the end of the gospel of John, He says, ‘As the Father has sent me, I am sending you’ (John 20:21).

The church is sent on mission by Jesus. It’s not that the church has a mission, but rather that the mission has a church. We join Jesus on His mission.

A missional church is one that seeks to engage all of the church in the activity God has for them — His mission. Our goal should be to move them from just sitting in rows to living in such a way that they are engaged in the work God has for them.” (Ed Stetzer, 2014).

This Sunday we celebrate our patronal feast St. James’ Day with our guest preacher the Revd. Dr. Tellison Glover, Procession and High Mass, and hotdogs, popcorn and bingo!

Fr. Tellison came to being work as the Director for Mission and Ministry Development in January 2018 from the Diocese of The Bahamas and Turks and Caicos Islands. His leadership position is in collaboration with the Bishop, Diocesan staff and Diocesan leadership, focussing, leading and overseeing the articulation of Mission and Ministry priorities and the initiatives related to those priorities (to include learning, teaching, diocesan programs, diocesan-wide events, and interventions in parishes).

He’ll be with us on Sunday, so get ready to welcome him and pepper him with questions!

See you soon,

Mother Lucy
