Clergy Notes — Sunday, May 12, 2019

Please remember in your prayers our Diocesan Synod “Love One and Other: Christ’s Body, The Church,” which will meet on 24 and 25 May at the Italian Cultural Centre.

Inspired by our Primate’s Heartbeat vision (see anglican.ca) we shall be reflecting on our life together as the Body of Christ, on our mutuality and diversity.  Archbishop Fred Hiltz will be with us, giving an opportunity for the Diocese to mark his ministry as Primate, and we shall benefit from his wisdom when considering the Council of General Synod’s “A Word to the Church,” (search on anglican.ca) and its accompanying Affirmations, in relation to the second reading of the motion to amend General Synod Canon XXI – On Marriage in the Church, which will come to General Synod here in July.

Bishop Sidney Black will also be at the Synod.  He will help us to reflect on our continuing journey in Truth and Reconciliation, and on the movement towards an autonomous Indigenous Church within the Anglican Church of Canada.  General Synod will consider amendments to Canon XXII – The National Indigenous Ministry, which will aid in further facilitating ministry by and with Indigenous communities in the Anglican Church of Canada.

A major item of internal business will be Revision of the Constitution and Canons of the Diocese, bringing them into line with contemporary practice.

Pray for Melissa, our Archbishop, and your Synod Delegates:  your clergy, Kelvin Bee, PJ Janson and Jenny Johnson.

On another tack, Mother Lucy is continuing on her way to Compostela, having reached Leon, on the plateau of NW Spain, via St. Jean-Pied-de-Port, Pamplona and Burgos.  I know she is carrying us in her prayers:  please hold her in yours.

St James, pray for us!

Fr. Kevin
