Clergy Notes — Second Sunday of Easter, April 19, 2020

We are now a full month into physical distancing, and the Government tells us that this will continue at the very least for some weeks yet. It will be even longer before life returns to some semblance of what was normal: indeed, life post Covid-19 will never be the same as it was in pre-virus days.

At St. James’ we have been unable to meet together in person for our regular round of worship and fellowship. Like many other organisations and groups we have been discovering new ways of maintaining a sense of community.  A good number of us share in Sunday worship via Zoom, The Thurible continues to be circulated, by email and online, Deacon Joyce is co-ordinating a “telephone-tree,” to sustain contact with more isolated parishioners, Clergy, Wardens and Trustees are keeping connected via Zoom, and the Mothers’ Union will hold its May meeting in the same way. Individuals too are keeping in touch, checking in with one another.

Staff at the Synod Office are considering how best to make use of virtual communications technology in this new situation. There are likely to be opportunities for online formation and study groups across the diocese. We will highlight these when details become available. We would be very interested to hear parishioners’ ideas of other ways in which we might use Zoom and other virtual media. Please email [email protected]

In this Easter season let us discover new ways of walking together with our Risen Lord.

Fr. Kevin
