Clergy Notes — Easter Sunday, April 4, 2021
Alleluia, Christ is Risen!
So once again we come together – for the second year online rather than in our beautiful church – after the journey of Lent and Passiontide, where we have shared in Christ’s isolation in the wilderness, his rejection by his friends, and his Way of the Cross, to proclaim afresh his glorious resurrection from the dead.
As we have shared with him in that isolation and suffering, so he is sharing with us the desolation of our world trapped in pandemic, and the groanings of the planet being shaken by climate change. The Risen Christ offers to each and to all an invitation to life in his renewed creation: in his resurrection all people, all things, are made new, made whole.
In our Easter Sunday Liturgy at Home we shall renew our baptismal covenant: our faith in God the Holy Trinity; our intention to continue in the way of Christ, together in the community of the church; our rejection of all that is evil; our willingness to live out the good news in word and deed, serving Christ in all people, loving our neighbour as ourselves; our commitment to social justice, one of the pressing needs of our time, not least with Truth and Reconciliation in Canada, Black Lives Matter and the alarming rise in acts of anti-Asian hatred; our resolve to care for and sustain the life of the earth.
As we pray for grace to be faithful to this covenant, may we hear the Risen Lord calling each of us by name, as he did Mary Magdalen on the first Easter Day, to put our faith and trust in him.
Easter Blessings,
Fr. Kevin
