Ellacombe Chimes at St James’ Anglican Church

St. James’ celebrated the bicentennial anniversary of the Ellacombe Chimes on June 26.  See Global TV’s coverage of the event here.   Two hundred years ago, the Reverend Henry Thomas Ellacombe invented and first installed the ‘Ellacombe Chiming Apparatus’ at St. Mary’s Church, Bitton, Gloucestershire, UK. Originally devised as a means to outwit a wayward team of bellringers, the chimes allow the ringing of church bells by a single person.
