Clergy Notes — Advent 3, Sunday December 11 2022

In the midst of Advent’s quiet contemplation, we observe Gaudete Sunday; a time to lift our heads from the somewhat solemn nature of the season to remember that we are people made to rejoice!

And so – although not strictly liturgically accurate – it does seem fitting that we should hold our first Christmas for All” event on this day – an event designed to share the joy of the Christmas story, in the hopes of building new relationships and stronger connections with our neighbours in the surrounding communities.

As weve been working on this, I notice that Ive been anxious about whether anyone will come, but not worried about whether or not God will show up. As in everything we do as a church, we strive to offer our very best, but ultimately it is God who breathes through our intentions, our actions, and our efforts. And regardless of the results and whether WE deem them successful” or not, God is there too.

That said, one of the greatest gifts St. James’ has to offer our neighbours is YOU! Please pray for all those who will participate and attend and, if you are able, please come and share the joy of Christ and the light of your presence with those whom God sends us today.
