Episcopal Election: Call for Nominations

Press Release from the Episcopal Election Committee.

June 29, 2020

The Most Rev. Melissa Skelton, Archbishop of New Westminster, has called for the election of a Coadjutor Bishop for the Diocese of New Westminster. This election is to be held on Saturday, October 3, 2020, in a manner to be determined by the Episcopal Election Committee.

Nominations open on Wednesday, July 1, 2020, and close on Friday, July 31, 2020, at midnight Pacific Time. Nominations must be made in accordance with the Diocesan Canons and Regulations. The requisite information for nominations is found here on the diocesan website. The Episcopal Election Committee can be contacted directly at [email protected].

The Episcopal Election Committee invites everyone in the diocese, and especially Synod Delegates who are responsible for nominating candidates and electing the new Bishop, to pray deeply and courageously about whom they believe God is calling to be our next Bishop. In the spirit of celebrating the diversity of God’s people, we ask you to reach out widely to the many networks to which you are connected. We are seeking a diverse and inclusive set of nominees, especially nominees who are members of communities who have been under-represented or not represented in episcopal elections.

To this end we ask every parish and worshipping community of the diocese to share this information on your webpages and social media.

As the Committee began its work together, we commissioned a prayer asking God to guide and direct the diocese through the electoral process. We offer it to you for use in all private and communal worship within our diocese in the months ahead. May it be food for our journey towards the election of the Coadjutor and pave the way for the beginning of a new episcopate in the year to come.

Trusting in the grace of our God,

Richard+
