Clergy Notes — Fourteenth Sunday after Pentecost, Sept. 6, 2020

The Episcopal Election Committee has announced the Nominees for Bishop Coadjutor. The Election by the Diocesan Synod will take place on Saturday, Oct. 3.

For Reflection this week I have selected extracts from the BAS Rite for the Ordination of a Bishop. These set out the weighty responsibilities and duties of a Bishop in exercising leadership in the Church of God, and so remind us all of our responsibility to pray regularly for our Bishop, and, at this time, for the recognition of God’s call in the election of our new Bishop.

There are five candidates, four from within the Diocese, and one from Toronto: the Venerable Allan Carson, the Reverend Philip Cochrane, the Reverend Philippa Segrave-Pride, the Right Reverend Riscylla Shaw, and the Reverend John Stephens. For full details go to vancouver.anglican.ca, click the Seeking our Next Bishop page.

Please pray for the candidates, and for the Synod Delegates, as the Election draws near. The Election Committee offers the following prayer for our use:

A Prayer for the Diocese

Triune God, Three-in-One and One-in-Three,

you created the Church to embody your mission in the world.

We thank you for the gift of your presence

so that we may be still and know your will for us.

We thank you for Jesus

who taught us that strength and growth

come through acts of humble service.

We thank you for the Holy Spirit

sent to lead us into all truth.

Bless the Synod of the Diocese of New Westminster

as we prepare to elect a Bishop Coadjutor.

Keep us steadfast in faith, united in love and courageous in action,

so that we may manifest your love for this world.

This we ask through Jesus Christ, our Friend and Helper. Amen.

The Diocese of British Columbia (Vancouver Island) is also holding an Electoral Synod, at the end of this month. Please pray for their candidates, among them The Venerable Douglas Fenton, and for their Synod Delegates.

Every blessing,

Fr. Kevin
