Important News about the SOI
Dear ones,
As most of you will know by now, Fr Matthew Johnson has announced his retirement at the end of September this year, after 22 years as the Street Outreach Priest. In addition to this critical ministry in our neighbourhood and diocese, Fr Matthew is also an integral part of the St James’ clergy team. This will be a major transition for him, as well as for the SOI and our Parish.
Members of the SOI and St James’ are working together with the Diocese to discern the future of the Street Outreach Initiative, as we believe it is a critical ministry that continues to be relevant for this time and place. Below you will find the link to a joint letter from Archbishop John and me (Mtr Amanda) with a little more detail on what this transition process has looked like so far and what our hopes are for the future.
Please keep Fr Matthew, and the ministry of SOI and St James’ in your prayers as we navigate this transition time together.
Of course, both the Parish of St James’ and the Diocese will be offering a time of gathering to celebrate Fr Matthew’s ministry. Our Parish celebration will be after Mass on Sunday, September 27th. All are welcome!
